Frequently Asked Questions about the Bus Tour Q: Why take the bus and not my own car? A: There can be a lot of traffic during the eagle season and few places to quickly and safely pull off the road to look at eagles. Taking the bus frees you from the worry of trying to drive safely and looking for eagles at the same time. Q: Will some be on the bus to help spot eagles? A: A naturalist from the National Park Service will be on board the bus to help spot eagles, provide information about them and their habitat, and answer questions. Q: Will spotting scopes be available on the bus? A: Scopes will not be available on the bus, but are available at some of the stops. Q: Why stop at the North Cascades Visitor Center? A: The Visitor Center is now closed and an alternate route is now being devised. Q: Where else does the bus stop? A: The bus stops several times along the route and river. Two of the most popular stops include the Bald Eagle Interpretive Center in Howard Miller Steelhead Park in Rockport and MP 100, both of which will have scopes set up for viewing eagles along the Skagit River. Q: How close do we get to eagles? A: The eagles are usually soaring over or perched along the Skagit River. It is not the purpose of the tours to be invasive of the eagle’s habitat, but to quietly observe them at a distance. The Sardis Raptor Center is scheduled to make several presentations during the season which provides the opportunity to see their birds up close. |
